There's always one of two reasons why an installation fails. It can always be traced back to installation materials and methods.

• The TTMAC  (Tile, Terazzo,Marble Association of Canada) publishes guidelines in regard to for proper methods and materials.  Of course choosing the correct materials and employing the right installation method is ultimately up to the installer.

For floors we use a variety of methods depending on the materials required for the job to meet its specific requirements.

Types of underlay we use:

• Ditra Mat
• Cement Board - to fasten we mortar,tape the seams and screw to the sub-floor
• 5/8 plywood - Glued and screwed with an 1/8" expansion gap between sheets and vertical abutment
• Screen and cement- (not scratch coat) screen is overlaped and cement topping is a minimum of 3/8" in thickness

It's only after a thorough inspection of the sub-floor that we recommend an underlay type.

For shower and bath installations we always use a vapor barrier. Selecting the adhesive depends on the tile and its size.

I use only cement mortars for all my installations, I don't use a premixed glue as it doesn't offer the same protection against moisture. 

(  Mastic (( pre-mixed glue)) needs air to dry and if used under large bodied tiles it will not dry properly in the center. ) 

Once favored for your project you'll be provided with a detailed list of materials we're going to use. You will also be given details of the methods we'll be using to install your tiles and a written warranty on workmanship!
